Vonage Sucks Charged me $42.89 to cancel unreliable service

Vonage is terrible service period pay top dollar for Vonage Terminal & 3 Vonage cordless phones almost $250.00 plus tax August would be 1-year of ***. They charged me the $42.89 early cancellation fee I protested and demand to speak to supervisor waste of more time sounds like they are based in India or some other country not the United States. Just a warning now to everyone stay away from Vonage period OOMA is who I have changed service with the voice quality is crystal clear even calling to France and several other european country's. OOMA is very easy to setup and the prices are far cheaper they offer several different plans & accessories including iPhone APP which you can make you long distance or international calls with. Also have a USB Bluetooth device so you can use you cell phone to answer and place calls very cool and works great. Anyway learned my lesson about Vonage it truly sucks worse that 8x8 and Skype out combined.

Out of 75 days with Vonage my phone worked 2 !!

I switched to Vonage from AT&T because my rate with AT&T was too high, after having Vonage for almost 3 months my phone has worked correctly for 3 days. I was told by Vonage in order to have the problem fixed I would have to pay them $99.00 for a service guy to come out and fix the problem. I would advise anyone to never get tied up with Vonage unless you want to spend your days pluging and unpluging thier modem to no avail and never get phone calls anymore if you want to talk I am!! luvzforplay@***.com

I have reported them to FCC, BBB, and consumer protection agency , so far I havn't heard anything from anyone !!! I guess they take what they can get and beat feet !!

Guest

Report them to the BBB in your area, they need to be exposed. I've heard complaints about Vonage for years.

Yesterday I rec'd an offer in the mail that frankly it sounded too good to be true, so I decided to check with this board and sure enough I was correct. I had AT&T for decades, when they were a monopoly, so we had to take their abuse. I was a $500 monthly customer, I don't have a business, they were calls to friends around the world and AT&T's calling charges were outrageous then, and they are outrageous now.

Not once they sent me a discount, or anything as a customer appreciation or something. For years I've used my little Tracfone which has served me well.

Report them to the BBB in your area, they need to be exposed, also to the FCC. Close your account and open a new one.

Check with an attorney, maybe legal aid in your city can help you out.

Keep all your records, communications, etc. Lastly, you can sue them in Small Claims, it's easy, and I bet you they will not show up for the hearing.

Vonage screwed me over by continuing charging monthly after cancellation

Vonage screwed me over by continuing charging monthly after cancellation

1. Back in July (7/28), I ported my numbers from Vonage to another provider and requested my account to be closed. I thought everything was taken care of.

2. On 9/26, I received an email from Vonage indicating charge error. It turned out one line was cancelled, but the other line miraculously stayed active despite that that number is live with another phone company.

3. I replied email, telling them this should be cancelled. I followed up with a phone call and was assured that everything was taken care of.

4. Recently on 2/5/2011, I received another email indicating charge error. I looked back my credit card history. It turned out these sleazy bastards have been charging me monthly fee all along.

5. I called them up right away and spoke with an agent named Shandel (agent ID 20522) who claimed to be a supervisor. I was welcomed to the *** land.

6. She is rude and very disrespectful.

 The record of me contacting Vonage miraculously disappeared.

 She took advantage of that I don't remember the details of something happened several month back and accused me of flip flopping.

 She said "we will get you to pay these fees. We will get to you with all our means somehow. Either your sister or cousin, someone has to pay this fee."

 She said Vonage sent out monthly bills. I NEVER received them. She said "she couldn't understand how the emails magically vanish in your inbox."

 She also Vonage won't know if a number is ported out. This sounds so comical to me because the other phone company needs to ask Vonage's PERMISSION to release the number. She also couldn't explain why one number is cancelled, but the other is still active.

 I requested refund for the monthly fees that they WRONGFULLY charged since the lines were closed. She basically said, no way, ***.

If anyone who is filing a class action lawsuit,

PLEASE let me know!!

If there is anything that can lead Vonage to bankruptcy,

PLEASE let me know how I can help!!

I will make destroying Vonage in every way I can until they fully refund the money they STOLE from my pocket!!

In my 72 years on Earth, I have never had a worse business experience than with Vonage. I was assured that, if I signed-up with Vonage, I could keep the telephone number that I have had for 20 years.

That did not work. I was then told that, in my particular area, that promise could not be fulfilled. I attempted to cancel the Vonage service. I was informed that it would cost me $90 to do so, even though Vonage had not kept its end of the deal.

Vonage continued to bill my AMEX account, even though I had instructed them to cease. Now, get this! I called AMEX and told them to honor no more charges from Vonage. AMEX said that they could disallow the charges only with VONAGE'S consent!!!

After some efforts, I got AMEX to see my side of things and they sided with me. I would prefer to deal with street thugs rather than VONAGE

Guest

I had the same exact experience with Vonage. I had my number ported over from Vonage to Cricket.

It took me over an entire month to do so, and I was told that I had to keep my Vonage account open in the meantime. I was told that my Cricket number would be cancelled once my number was ported over. My number had been successfully ported over for an entire month, when I received an email informing that I was going to be charged for a service that I no longer had. The customer service through Vonage is terrible.

The connection sounds tinny and faraway (they must use their own VOIP service or perhaps it's outsourced.) The first time I call I was transferred twice, and once I finally got through to someone the call was dropped. I called back a second time, and I was told that it was my job to call Cricket to make sure that they sent a confirmation that the number was ported. I don't believe that a customer should serve as a mediator between two companies doing business with each other. Needless to say, I was very frustrated.

In my opinion, charging for a non-existent service is the same as thievery. I'm in on a class action law suit, and I'm certainly going to spread the word on my dissatisfaction.

Guest

I too cancelled vonage and had my number ported. Comcast took over my phone service and contacted Vonage for the number transfer.

The credit card Vonage used for monthly billing was no longer in use so Vonage sent a collection agency after me for a $40 cancellation fee as well as another monthly charge of $35. I had agreed to a one year contract with Vonage when i signed up with them. I was well into my second year. Why the cancellation fee?

Simple, their crooks who think they can push individuals around. Who wants to sue?

Vontage is a horrible service - do not use them!

I signed up for Vontage 14 days ago and requested my old phone number ported to my new residence. After 14 days and numerous phone calls they still have not ported my phone number. Meanwhile they are billing me for a service I do not have. The language barrier with their customer service representatives is horrible. Everytime you call you talk to someone different and they have no record of who you spoke with prior and then you have to go through the entire issue again. I was told 4 days ago that the problem was due to an address error which the account manager was going to correct and I would be up and running in 72 hours. I called today and was told that the address was never corrected and it would take another 72 hours to fix this. I have no confidence in anyone that I talk with at Vontage. And to make matters worse, someone from one of their offices called to try and solicit additional services when they haven't fixed the first issue. Like that's going to happen!

Deceptive Ad and Secret Surcharges by Vonage

Deceptive Ad by Vonage

Be aware that Vonage is deceptive in its advertisement and service charges

We were told that the monthly charge for phone services was $25.99 for the unlimited calls, including domestic, long distance and international. So, we signed up in October 2010. We were also told that we must use a credit card for payments. So we gave our credit card number.

Since then, Vonage has charged $33.59 to our credit card. I was puzzled by this higher cost than the advertized $25.99. When I called Vonage, customer specialist explained that this monthly charge included taxes and fees. So, I requested for the breakdowns of taxes and fees in my monthly charge of $33.59. Unbelievably, I was told that Vonage does not provide billing statements. Furthermore, the customer specialist refused to provide any information regarding their surcharges and other fees. .

The difference between the advertized price ($25.99) and the actual charge ($33.59) is $7.60, which supposedly includes taxes and fees. Because this amount seems too high, I did some calculations as follows:

Federal tax at 3%  0.03*25.59= $0.77

Ohio state tax at 6.75 0 .0675*25.59= $1.73

Thus, total taxes = 2.50

If you subtract these taxes from $7.60, Vonage charges $5.10 for surcharges and other fees. With local phone company, I used to pay $1.46 monthly for surcharges and other fees. Thus, Vonage charges almost $4.00 more for surcharges and fees than my previous local phone company does.

To keep unfair (perhaps illegal) surcharges and other fees secret, I now realize that Vonage have used clever tactics such as charging to credit cards and no provision of monthly statements. By the way, is the refusal to provide information about surcharges and fees legal?

Paying $4 more for these unknown, secret fees is not big deal in our monthly budget, but I am appalled by Vonage's dishonest and deceptive business practice. I am going to switch back to my previous local carrier

I had requested Vonage to disconnect my line in Dec 2015. The agent said he will do it.

I was shocked when I started getting calls in April 16 saying it is from a collection agency and that I need to pay $133. When I contacted Vonage, they said that the agent did not record it. So line was not disconnected. And I was billed for 3 months.

They confirmed that I do not have any calls after Dec. But they are forcing me to pay the bill.

The amount includes their bill and late payment for service which was not used.

Vonage refuses to stop billing me, lies when I try to cancel

I signed up for Vonage and for various reasons did not connect or ever use the service. On July 27, 2010 I cancelled the service. This needed to be done via telephone. I noticed in November 2010 that my credit card was still being billed by Vonage. I cancelled the credit card. Vonage sent an email stating that I now owed $30.47. The account was cancelled and I was still being billed. I called Vonage Dec 10, 2010. First I talked to Ro. She asked me to verify my account. I gave her my phone number as requested, and she said that was the wrong number. She asked for the last four digits of my credit card. When I gave her that, she said it was wrong. Now this is the same credit card that they were billing for my service, I am holding a statement in my hand showing the charges. Ro said that she couldn't make any changes to my account until I verified the account. Ro was able to see it was noted on my account that I requested cancellation on July 27, 1010. I asked to talk to a supervisor. After a long hold, Amy no. 52146 (or 12546 - she couldn't be sure) came to the phone and we basically went through the same as Ro. After much discussion Amy finally stated that I had the correct phone number (I've had the same land line number for many years) and that she could verify my account, and would cancel it. I then asked about the charges since July. I would have to dispute those already made, but let's at least reverse the charge that I owe them. Amy would not agree to any of that. She's sorry, but doesn't have the authority to do that. After much discussion, I asked for someone who DOES have the authority. After a very long wait, Mark #34029 came on the line. We went through the same exact conversation although he did acknowledge that I'd verified my account. But can you believe it - Amy #52146 had NOT cancelled the account! Mark started going through the cancellation process. I asked for something in writing, or a cancellation number. He assured me several times that he would take care of it. i insisted, he kept trying to pass me back to Amy, etc. He said he had emailed a cancellation number but I had not received the email before he transferred me back to Amy. I had to insist before I got the cancelation email. I am certain that Mark was trying to deceive me into believing that Vonage had cancelled my account but instead continue charging, as they had done before. I was given an address to write to Vonage to dispute my charges. I'll get back to you and let you know how that goes.

I thought I would try vontage as my phone carrier..Later I changed my mind..Never used their equipment, I called right after I received it and tried to return it. I told them I did not want their services, but they continued billing me for it.

I've never used it it's still in the package but they're now collecter $182. from my credit card and refuse to credit it back.

I am so angry I'm already seeking legal advice. this is rediculous!!

Sandy Gco

I made the mistake of switching to Vonage, trying to save money. The little box they sent never worked right, turns off at night, and had me running all over the neighborhood to find a phone to call them.Either the phone worked or the internet, but not both. They were supposed to send me two electric phone jacks, and said they would take care of my problems.I never got the boxes, and have cancelled the service after less than a week, and many hours on the phone with numerous reps trying to get the service working properly!!After reading the billing issues posted here,I will be going to my bank to make sure they allow no more charges from Vonage.I paid for a month, and they should have paid me for the *** I have had to deal with.

Vonage usage

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right forum but wanted bring to your notice that, even though Vonage advt that with 14$ or 24$pm we can call nearly 60 countries unlimited, please find attached the screen shot from Vonage site, but it is not true. If the no.of calls increase more than 3000 minutes they changes the plan without informing the customer and the amount to be paid is 46$ per month and if no.of minutes is more than 3000 they charge extra .30 cents. When we contacted Vonage the customer care informed us that it is just to check the home number is not used for business. I think they are making the normal people fool by giving worng advertisement. I hope someone looks into this since as such they dont have any unlimited plan in Vonage. Thanks Sujatha

Vonage NEVER connects

Don't get sucked into using Vonage. I have had Vonage for about 2 years now and I'm disgusted. My calls rarely go through; I constantly get busy signals for the numbers I'm trying to call. Then if I call the same number on my cell phone, the call miraculously goes through. I even tried called the Vonage customer service number (very hard to find unless you Google it) and that call wouldn't go through. I have tried to post a message on their web site to customer service but this is a very convoluted process and I was eventually kicked out of the message without it going through. I'm switching to Comcast soon if I can keep the same phone number. Buyer beware; don't fall for Vonage.

Vonage said that my fax line would be free with their premium package ($24.99). They have been charging me $9.99 per month for five months and refuse to change it to a fax line or credit the amount they have cheated me. I changed to them in August 2010 from my local phone company to save money. My bills are much less but they still should charge my what they promised and advertise. They are doing the same thing with two accounts (personal at my house and business at my office). I have called and talked to the people in India with no help from anyone.

I hate the sales dept!!!! :( They will lie through their teeth to make commission :sigh I am ashamed when I get a customer who was lied to! Vonage is not 100% at fault, most of the issue is due to outsourced call centers and language barriers and communication break down is at fault. When calling vonage I recommend asking the agent where they are located.

Vonage has NEVER offered or advertised free add on fax lines, you could use your premium lines to send/receive faxes

Vonage is awful

We were with VONAGE for well over a year, and had a horrible connection. I stopped handing out our number and commonly used my cell phone. Within the first year I tried to cancel and they wanted $85. They claim no contract but it's a lie. After a year and a half of paying for a service I never used I spoke to a CSR and explained to her that I had requested help and was told that in order to get quality sound I would have to disconnect my wireless modem. My husband and I are both in online school, so wireless internet is a must. After She asked me if I wanted to reconsider and I specifically told her yes, I received an email thanking me for choosing to stay with their company. I emailed corporate and was told that I as the wife could not cancel because the account was in my husbands name. I explained to them that I opened the account in his name, I have handled it the entire time. He has never once even spoken to the people. They are refusing to cancel our account and my only chance is to close my bank account down. I shouldn't have to do this at all. Vonage is a joke. Their service sucks and they do nothing but lie and give you grief once you want to cancel.

We had vonage for almost 2yrs and then moved. Upon moving we no longer needed their service and they refused to cancel our account without almost 140$.

I don't know how to stop this they are still taking out money every month and this has gone on over a year. they are stealing from us.

Do not use Vonage Service

Sign up for volnage a month ago, they have auto debited my account twice. To have their service you have to set up mpnthly reoccurring charge in which they can debit at random. I am so pissed and can't wait to disconnect the service. I have had my phone number for years but I will gladly let go to get rid of vonage. Beware of companies like this will require auto debits from your account. There are usually a reason why. Now I understand. This was a costly move for me. Hopefully no one else will experience this. pissed
