Vonage in Port Orchard, Washington - Mislead consumers & useless customer service

Vonage is by far the worst phone service provider that I have had the displeasure of encountering. After discovering that they repeatedly called my elderly mother to switch her phone service promising a 'low' monthly rate, I attempted to sort out canceling her service. She had called the previous day to switch her phone number to Comcast. A Vonage agent kept her on the phone for an hour until she agreed to pay the $120.00 to cancel her contract. Once with Comcast, we discovered that they did not wait for the phone number to be ported but cancelled her account. She was left being able to call out but not receive calls. When I called Vonage to find out why her number was not yet released, I was informed that the account was cancelled so the number could no longer be transferred to Comcast. I let the agent know that I could see that her service was still active because any incoming calls immediately went to her Vonage voicemail service. The agent then reversed her first claim and said that yes, the account was still active. When I asked about the cancellation fee, she said she was not showing a charge to cancel and she would not be charged. I asked her to clarify where the $120.00 fee came from and she could not give me a straight answer but instead offered to transfer me to billing. The billing agent took over at that point and refused to tell me anything about charges until I gave him either a PIN number, credit card info or the name of the plan. I explained that I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with another agent at VONAGE who just transferred me to him & was able to verify the account without problems. Although I appreciate their security measures, the agent would not even answer a simple general question about the fee to cancel an account. His response was evasive and rambling. I was left at a complete loss as to how to get a straight answer from any angle, they made no attempt to clarify their contracts that they quote to customers. Do your research before you choose Vonage. The cheap rate correlates to cheap customer service. The saying "You get what you pay for" applies to this shady company.

Abused by Vonage Executive Member Service

I have now received notice that it has been six months. In that 6 months time, Vonage worked out a deal with the FCC and I have NEVER heard from Vonage what the resolution was even thought the FCC ordered them to send these resolutions to me. I have never heard ... so I am just a person at the mercy of what Vonage wishes to keep secret hoping I will just go away Instead of being a Reputable Company and working things out with ME the customer or at least lettin me know what resolutions were reached. I could have heard in 6 months even by letter, but Vonage has shown me that I am not even worth that to them. BE WARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vonage quality is very poor. No refunds. I lost $200 with this pathetic company. The service was absolutely aweful. Called customer service to get service cancelled and a refund due to their poor quality service. No chance. These people on the phone must be scripted because they will go around and around but will not give you a refunded. I don't mind a company who fails in a service or product. But I do mind a company who knowingly rips you off. I hope they chock on the $200. Avoid this service unless you like very poor VOIP service.

Vonage in Minneapolis, Minnesota - Staff Was Either Deceiptful or Just Not Very Bright

Vonage managed to frustrate me immensely even though I never used their service. I had cable and Internet through Comcast but I wasn’t a fan of their customer service. Then my employer told me I could start working from home as long as I could obtain landline phone service. Initially I didn’t want to deal with Comcast because of the poor customer service I experienced, and when I saw that Vonage offered unlimited phone for $9.99 a month, it seemed like a good deal. Before making my final decision, I had three separate conversations with Vonage agents where I made it clear I needed one phone line to use for work. At no point in any of these conversations did the reps inform me that there’s actually a clause in the “unlimited” phone service which states that if they assume you’re using it for any kind of work-related calls (based on your calling habits), you will be forced to change to one of their business plans, the cheapest of which is over $40 a month (prices for the business plans were buried on the site.) On my fourth chat conversation with a rep, I finally coaxed the truth out of her, though at first she wouldn’t answer my questions directly and instead kept resending me links to their terms of service and links to the Vonage Business page. (I’m like, “I read through all this and I need more clarification, that’s why I’m talking to you!) So yes, while the unlimited plan is $10 a month under one year contract, if they think I’m using it too much they will upgrade me to the $40-plus a month plan for the same service. I’ll still be under a year contract and I will still be forced to pay an early termination fee if I cancel service…but they would send me an e-mail if this were to happen (how reassuring!) I can’t be the only person seeking phone service for a work-from-home job, as these jobs are becoming increasingly popular and many young people would not otherwise get landline phone service. I felt Vonage was either being very deceitful or the reps were extremely incompetent, and if anyone is seeking a phone line for a work from home I would strongly urge you to seek other options. Comcast may have overall poor customer service but I was able to get unlimited phone service added to my plan for $10 a month, no contract and no strings attached as far as my calling patterns are concerned.
